Director General: By Organizing Talks about April Uprising, BTA Took Step towards People

Speaking at a conference regarding the April Uprising, Milen Mitev, the Director General of Bulgarian National Radio (BNR), stated that the organization of discussions by BTA represents a crucial effort by media outlets to engage their audience effectively. This event marked the conclusion of a series organized by BTA commemorating the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising. Mitev emphasized that a full understanding of the present requires placing current circumstances within a broad historical context, necessitating an examination of both domestic and international history.

He underscored the significant influence media channels exert on public opinion within this process. According to the Director, the historical actions of the April Uprising participants—particularly their commitment and willingness to make sacrifices—provide foundational lessons. Mitev further noted that the April Uprising remains a pivotal, epoch-making moment in the history leading to an independent Bulgarian state.

However, he cautioned that national pride must be managed responsibly. He argued that, much like history itself, national pride is susceptible to manipulation for various agendas. Therefore, he stressed that the responsibility lies with media institutions and scholars to cultivate national self-esteem.

This cultivation, he specified, should focus not on claims of superiority, but rather on a genuine appreciation of the nation’s history, achievements, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
