Tina Mari Flem, the editor-in-chief of the Norwegian News Agency, has been elected president of MINDS, the international media innovation network. The election took place on Thursday afternoon during MINDS’ annual general meeting in Vienna. Flem assumes the role following the expiration of the term for the chief executive officer of the Finnish News Agency.
The election was acknowledged by Kiril Valchev, Director General of the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA). Valchev congratulated Flem and presented her with the English edition of The Real News: Stories on Life 1898-2023, a book published to mark the 125th anniversary of BTA. BTA joined MINDS as its 23rd member in late April 2022.
This admission followed a unanimous decision by the MINDS General Assembly during the organization’s 32nd conference in Helsinki. The conference operated under the theme, “Stronger Together – Collaboration and sharing for success.” This membership elevated Bulgaria’s national news agency to a position alongside major international news providers such as Reuters, Agence France-Presse, and the Associated Press. BTA maintains agreements with 16 agencies within MINDS, including Anadolu Agency, ANP, Athens-Macedonian News Agency, ANSA, AFP, AP, Austria Presse Agentur, Belga, Deutsche Presse-Agentur, EFE, Kyodo News, LETA, Lusa, Polish Press Agency, Press Trust of India, and Reuters.
