Language Classroom Will Open at Bulgarian Sunday School in Tatarbunary

A multimedia language classroom for the study of Bulgarian is scheduled to open in Tatarbunary, Ukraine, on May 2, according to Svetoslav Ivanov, Consul General of Bulgaria in Odesa. Ivanov stated that the project aligns with the Council of Ministers Decree No. 224 of October 30, 2025, and the broader program supporting Bulgarian communities across several nations, including Ukraine.

The initiative was approved through a process involving eight project proposals, with support from the Consulate General and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The operating entity is the Tatarbunary Bulgarian Cultural and Educational Society Rodolyubie. The primary objective of the project is to preserve and develop Bulgarian culture and linguistic identity by integrating modern teaching methodologies.

This effort aims to encourage students of Bulgarian descent to acquire knowledge and maintain cultural connections with their ancestral homeland. The support is particularly noted for its importance given that the school serves a mixed-population area. The Bulgarian Sunday School Balgarche was initially established in 2014.

Since the 2016–2017 academic year, the school has expanded its reach, opening branches in Tatarbunary, Kiliia, and the village of Novoselivka. Beyond language instruction, the school offers diverse extracurricular workshops covering folk dance, traditional instruments, singing, theater, and applied arts. Currently, the institution supports 341 students in these activities, managed by 45 teachers.

The Bulgarian Sunday School Balgarche is also a member of the World Association of Bulgarian Schools Abroad.
