Language Classroom Will Open at Bulgarian Sunday School in Tatarbunary

A multimedia language classroom dedicated to the study of Bulgarian is scheduled to open in Tatarbunary, Ukraine, on May 2nd, according to Svetoslav Ivanov, Consul General of Bulgaria in Odesa. Ivanov stated that the project is supported under Council of Ministers Decree No. 224 of October 30, 2025, and falls within a broader program designed to support Bulgarian communities across several nations, including Ukraine.

The initiative was proposed by the Tatarbunary Bulgarian Cultural and Educational Society Rodolyubie. The primary objective of the project is to preserve and advance Bulgarian culture and linguistic identity by incorporating modern teaching methodologies. Furthermore, the program aims to encourage students of Bulgarian origin to acquire knowledge and maintain historical connections with Bulgaria.

The support is noted as particularly vital because the school operates within a mixed-population area. The Bulgarian Sunday School Balgarche, established in 2014, has since expanded its reach, opening branches in Tatarbunary, Kiliia, and Novoselivka during the 2016–2017 academic year. Beyond formal instruction in the language, the institution hosts various extracurricular workshops covering folk dance, traditional instruments, singing, theatrical arts, and applied crafts.

Currently, the school serves 341 students in these supplementary activities, supported by 45 teachers. The facility, which utilizes its specialized classroom resources, is a recognized member of the World Association of Bulgarian Schools Abroad.
