Language Classroom Will Open at Bulgarian Sunday School in Tatarbunary

A multimedia language classroom dedicated to studying Bulgarian was opened in Tatarbunary, Ukraine, on May 2, with support provided by Bulgaria, according to Consul General Svetoslav Ivanov in Odesa. Ivanov stated that this project aligns with Council of Ministers Decree No. 224 of October 30, 2025, and the broader Program for Supporting Bulgarian Communities in several nations, including Ukraine.

The initiative was approved as one of eight proposals, supported by the Consulate General and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The school operates under the Tatarbunary Bulgarian Cultural and Educational Society Rodolyubie. The project’s primary objective is to preserve and advance Bulgarian culture and linguistic identity by incorporating modern teaching methodologies.

This effort aims to encourage students of Bulgarian descent to acquire knowledge and maintain cultural connections with their ancestral homeland. The support is deemed particularly vital because the school serves a mixed-population area. The Bulgarian Sunday School Balgarche was initially established in 2014.

By the 2016–2017 academic year, the institution had expanded its reach, opening three additional branches across Tatarbunary, Kiliia, and Novoselivka. Beyond language instruction, the school offers extracurricular workshops covering folk dance, traditional instruments, singing, theater, and applied folk arts. Currently, the institution supports 341 students in these activities, taught by 45 educators.

The Bulgarian Sunday School Balgarche is affiliated with the World Association of Bulgarian Schools Abroad.
