Folklore Club from Northern Ireland to Perform Collaboration With Detelini Folklore Ensemble from Athens

The Chemshir Bulgarian Folklore Club, based in Armagh, northern Ireland, is scheduled to participate in a special performance collaboration with the Detelini Dance Folklore Ensemble of Athens. This joint presentation will take place at the 11th Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance travelling festival, held in Munich from May 15 to May 17. The performance is set to feature dancers representing several nations, including Greece, Cyprus, the USA, and northern Ireland.

According to group leader Plamena Chemshirova, the collaboration highlights the global connection of Bulgarian diaspora dancers. The group plans to present a traditional Thracian dance originating from the Pazardzhik Region. The choreography narrates themes of romance, the strength of friendship, and the cultural significance of the Bulgarian horo.

The Expats Join Hands festival is dedicated to supporting amateur folklore ensembles performing outside of Bulgaria. The initiative was established by the Ot Izvora group in Lyon, France, which hosted both the inaugural event in 2015 and the tenth edition in 2025. For the 11th iteration in Munich, organizers anticipate participation from over 100 dance ensembles and an attendance of more than 4,000 guests.

The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) serves as the official media partner for the event and will provide coverage for all participating groups.

  1. This collaboration sounds like a fantastic showcase of diverse Balkan and Mediterranean cultures.
