The authentic folklore group Chilnovski Babi, originating from the village of Chilnov in Bulgaria’s Ruse Region, is scheduled to participate in the 11th Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance travelling festival. This event will take place from May 15 to May 17 at BMW Park in Munich. The group’s artistic director, Stefka Atanasova, announced that Chilnovski Babi will perform two songs: “Libe le, libe hubavo” and “Song for Bulgaria.”
Atanasova noted that preparations for the festival are proceeding with enthusiasm, particularly as the ensemble celebrates its 40th anniversary.
She stated that the group comprises women from various ethnic backgrounds, all Bulgarian. The age range of the participants spans from approximately 60 to 83 years old. The folklore group’s formation began in March 1986 in the municipality of Dve Mogili.
Atanasova recounted the founding moment, describing how several graceful women gathered in Chilnov, motivated by a shared desire to promote their homeland through song and custom, both within Bulgaria and internationally. The Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance festival is dedicated to amateur folklore ensembles performing outside Bulgaria. Initiated by the Ot Izvora group in Lyon, France, the festival has hosted editions in 2015 and 2025.
The upcoming 11th edition in Munich anticipates participation from over 100 dance ensembles and an attendance of more than 4,000 guests. The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) serves as the official media partner for the event.
