The authentic folklore group Chilnovski Babi, originating from the village of Chilnov in the Ruse Region of Bulgaria, is scheduled to participate in the 11th Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance travelling festival. This event will take place from May 15 to May 17 at the BMW Park in Munich. According to the group’s artistic director, Stefka Atanasova, the ensemble plans to perform two pieces: “Libe le, libe hubavo” and “Song for Bulgaria.”
Atanasova noted that preparations for the festival are proceeding with significant enthusiasm, especially as the group recently celebrated its 40th anniversary.
She described the group as composed of women from various ethnic backgrounds, all Bulgarian, with members ranging in age from approximately 60 to 83 years old. The folklore group was established in March 1986 in Chilnov. Atanasova recalled the founding moment, stating that the women gathered with a shared desire to honor their homeland through song and custom, both within Bulgaria and internationally.
The Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance festival is organized for amateur folklore ensembles performing outside Bulgaria. The initiative was launched by the Ot Izvora group in Lyon, France, which hosted previous editions. The 11th festival in Munich anticipates participation from over 100 dance ensembles and an attendance of more than 4,000 guests.
The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) is serving as the official media partner for the event.
