For Grande Partenza Event of 109th Giro d’Italia Hosted by Bulgaria Go as Planned

The Caretaker Minister of Youth and Sports, Dimitar Iliev, recently convened an online working meeting with representatives from institutions tasked with organizing the first three stages of the 2026 Giro d’Italia cycling race in Bulgaria. During the meeting, the Ministry of Sports reviewed the current organizational status, emphasized the necessity of seamless coordination among all involved bodies, and outlined upcoming key activities. Minister Iliev addressed the assembled parties, stressing that successful hosting of an event of this magnitude requires robust inter-institutional cooperation.

He expressed confidence in the collective efforts, affirming that continued, coordinated work is essential to ensure the competition proceeds successfully. Participants confirmed that preparations are advancing according to the established timeline, with specific measures being implemented for security, logistics, and overall operational organization. Discussions also covered protocols for ensuring the safety of both participants and spectators, alongside maintaining the optimal conduct of the sporting event.

The 2026 Giro d’Italia will begin in Nessebar, located on the Black Sea coast, on May 8. The race route will subsequently pass through Burgas, Veliko Tarnovo, and Plovdiv before concluding in Sofia on May 10. To cover the event, BTA has launched a dedicated section titled “Giro d’Italia 2026 – Cycling in Bulgaria,” detailing the three-day cycling event hosted in Italia’s prestigious Giro circuit.
