Forces Convoys to Move Across National Road and Rail Network After Exercises

The Bulgarian Defence Ministry announced that servicemen and military equipment belonging to the Land Forces units will traverse the nation’s infrastructure between April 28 and April 30, 2026. This movement follows the conclusion of planned military exercises designed to test the readiness of the armed forces. On April 28 and 29, personnel and materiel returning from the tactical drill known as “Defensive Shield 26,” conducted by the 5th Brigade Command, will be transported.

The initial phase of the movement will see equipment moving from the Koren Training Area in Southern Bulgaria to the cities of Pleven, Shumen, and Sliven, utilizing both the national road and rail networks. The final movement is scheduled for April 30. On this day, military convoys carrying personnel and equipment will travel along the national road network, originating from the Novo Selo Training Area located in Southeastern Bulgaria.

This convoy movement follows the completion of field training exercises. Throughout both phases, the movement of military assets will be managed by specialized logistics teams. The Ministry confirmed that all convoys will be accompanied by escorts from the Military Police Service to ensure the security and orderly passage of the forces.

The planned use of the road and rail systems underscores the comprehensive logistical planning for the units. These scheduled transports allow the military to safely redeploy assets after participation in large-scale operational drills.
