Gurov Emerges as CC-DB’s Main Presidential Candidate Under Discussion, Denkov Says

Nikolay Denkov, Deputy Chairman of Continue the Change and an MP from its coalition with Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB), addressed speculation regarding a joint presidential nominee. When questioned about the bloc’s unified candidate, Denkov indicated that Andrey Gurov currently represents the leading name. However, he stressed that a formal nomination requires the candidate’s commitment, noting that Gurov, who serves as caretaker Prime Minister, stated he needed time to make a final decision.

Previously, Gurov had said that various groups had contacted him about a presidential bid, emphasizing that the matter was serious and required careful consideration after the focus on elections within the caretaker cabinet. Addressing coalition dynamics, Denkov dismissed reports of internal friction within CC-DB, stating that such drama was being manufactured. He confirmed that while differences exist between the partners, the parties remain within a single coalition framework.

Denkov characterized Continue the Change as aiming for a centrist, national platform, requiring varied messaging tailored to different regions of Bulgaria. Turning to governance, Denkov outlined key priorities for the newly elected Parliament, scheduled to convene on April 30. He stated that adopting the 2026 budget, which must account for rising fuel prices and inflation stemming from the Iranian crisis, is a primary task.

Another major focus is reforming the judicial system, specifically targeting the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC). Denkov said that CC-DB would support proposed changes to the SJC, provided that the procedures for reform are clearly and openly defined for the public.
