During his participation in the Delphi Economic Forum, the EU Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, stated that the European Union maintains sufficient reserves of aviation fuel, capable of supporting operations for up to three months. Addressing the ongoing energy crisis, Tzitzikostas suggested that recent flight cancellations by some airlines are primarily linked to escalating fuel costs rather than actual supply deficiencies. He characterized the current energy situation as historically significant and predicted a challenging summer ahead for the continent.
The Commissioner also warned that a prolonged conflict in the Middle East could precipitate severe global consequences. In response to geopolitical instability, he highlighted the EU’s military mobility plan, which involves modernizing 500 strategically important sites across Europe. Furthermore, Tzitzikostas forecasted a noticeable downturn in tourist arrivals from Asia to Europe.
The Delphi Forum, which continues through April 25th, serves as a major international gathering featuring over 200 discussions and panels involving approximately 1,200 speakers. Attendees include representatives from governments, academia, and industry, focusing on critical areas such as geopolitics, economic trends, and technological advancements.
