At the Delphi Economic Forum, EU Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, addressed the region’s energy situation, confirming that the European Union maintains sufficient aviation fuel reserves. He stated that emergency stocks could be activated for a period extending up to three months. Regarding recent industry disruptions, Tzitzikostas attributed flight cancellations by some airlines primarily to escalating fuel prices rather than actual supply shortages.
The Commissioner characterized the current energy crisis as unprecedented and projected a challenging summer period ahead. He also warned that the global repercussions could be severe if the conflict in the Middle East persists. In response to geopolitical shifts, Tzitzikostas highlighted the EU’s military mobility plan, which involves modernizing 500 strategically important sites across Europe.
Furthermore, he forecast a notable decline in tourist arrivals originating from Asia to Europe. The Delphi Forum, running through April 25, features over 200 panels and discussions involving approximately 1,200 international speakers. Participants include representatives from governments, international organizations, academia, and the business sector, focusing discussions on geopolitics, economic trends, and technological transformations.
