Has Sufficient Reserves of Aviation Fuel, Says Transport Commissioner

During his participation in the Delphi Economic Forum, the EU Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, stated that the European Union maintains sufficient reserves of aviation fuel, with the capacity to activate emergency stocks for a period of up to three months. Addressing the ongoing energy crisis, Tzitzikostas suggested that flight cancellations reported by some airlines are primarily linked to escalating fuel costs rather than actual supply deficiencies. The Commissioner characterized the current energy crisis as unprecedented in scale and issued a forecast predicting a challenging summer ahead.

He cautioned that a protracted conflict in the Middle East could result in severe global repercussions. In terms of security, Tzitzikostas highlighted the EU’s military mobility plan, which involves the modernization of 500 strategically important sites across the continent. Furthermore, he predicted a notable downturn in tourist arrivals originating from Asia heading to Europe.

The Delphi Forum, which continues through Saturday, April 25th, is a major gathering featuring over 200 discussions and panels involving approximately 1,200 international speakers. Participants represent governments, academic institutions, and the private sector, focusing discussions on geopolitics, economic trends, and technological shifts.
