The 51st meeting of the Technical, Operational and Safety Committee (TOSC) of ACI EUROPE is currently taking place in Sofia, Bulgaria. The event is drawing over 100 leading experts and representatives from the European airport industry. The forum is designed to facilitate in-depth working group discussions covering critical sectors, including digitalization, cybersecurity protocols, the integration of artificial intelligence in aviation, and strategies for operational resilience.
Furthermore, it emphasizes necessary cooperation among airports, institutions, and service providers across Europe. SOF Connect highlighted that the meeting represents a significant phase in the development of Vasil Levski Airport – Sofia, which aims to become the first 5-star regional airport in Europe. The forum provides a platform to exchange experience and discuss innovations set to shape the future of airport operations and safety standards.
A dedicated session within the program will present the ongoing development of the airport, alongside progress on major infrastructure projects, including plans for Terminal 3, while also detailing visions for sustainable development and enhanced service quality. ACI EUROPE, headquartered in Brussels, represents a substantial portion of the continent’s aviation sector, overseeing over 600 airports across 55 countries. These members account for more than 95% of commercial air traffic within Europe.
According to organizational data, air transport is vital to the European economy, supporting an estimated 14 million jobs and generating €851 billion in economic activity, representing 5% of the continent’s GDP.
