Iotova to Hold Consultations with Parliamentary Groups Tuesday

President Iliana Iotova is scheduled to hold consultations with the six parliamentary groups on May 5, according to the President’s press secretariat on Monday. The constitutional process dictates that following these consultations, the President will appoint the Prime Minister-designate proposed by the largest parliamentary group to form the government. The schedule of meetings begins with Progressive Bulgaria, the largest parliamentary group, which commands 131 seats in the 240-seat Parliament.

Subsequently, Iotova will meet with the representatives from GERB-UDF, the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, Democratic Bulgaria, Continue the Change, and Vazrazhdane. After concluding the series of consultations, the President is expected to issue a statement to the media. The Members of Parliament were sworn in on April 30, and during that session, Progressive Bulgaria MP Mihaela Dotsova was elected as the Chair of the National Assembly.

This procedural step marks a key phase in the formation of the new administration. The planned meetings are central to the constitutional mechanism for selecting a head of government following the parliamentary elections.
