Reports confirm that an overnight drone attack targeted the city of Odesa in Southern Ukraine, resulting in casualties and significant property damage. Oleh Kiper, Head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, stated that two individuals were killed and fourteen others were injured during the incident. Emergency responders from the State Emergency Service evacuated 36 residents, including two children, from the affected areas.
The impact of the attack on Odesa included extensive damage to residential zones. According to official accounts, at least three residential buildings sustained major damage, with reports detailing destroyed facades and shattered windows across multiple apartments. Local services are currently engaged in managing the aftermath of the overnight assault.
In addition to residential damage, a merchant vessel flying the flag of Saint Kitts and Nevis, which was en route to a port in Greater Odesa, was also affected. While a fire broke out on the ship, crew members successfully extinguished the blaze, and there were no reported casualties associated with the vessel. The population context of the region remains relevant, with the Odesa region housing over 150,000 Bulgarians, representing the third-largest population group in Ukraine as of the 2001 census.
Approximately 50,000 to 60,000 of these individuals reside within the city of Odesa. The primary concentration of the Bulgarian population is noted in the Bolhrad, Izmail, and Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi districts.
