A multimedia language classroom dedicated to the study of Bulgarian will open in Tatarbunary, Ukraine, on May 2, according to Svetoslav Ivanov, Consul General of Bulgaria in Odesa. This initiative is supported by Bulgaria and is part of a larger program designed to support Bulgarian communities across several countries, including Ukraine. Ivanov explained that the project was approved under a specific Council of Ministers Decree and the broader Program for Supporting Bulgarian Communities.
The proposal was submitted by the Tatarbunary Bulgarian Cultural and Educational Society Rodolyubie, which operates the school. The primary goal of the project is to preserve and advance Bulgarian culture, particularly its linguistic identity, by utilizing modern teaching tools. Furthermore, the program aims to encourage students of Bulgarian origin to acquire knowledge and maintain cultural ties with Bulgaria.
The support is particularly significant as the Bulgarian Sunday School operates within a mixed-population area. Established in 2014, the school has expanded its reach, opening branches in Tatarbunary, Kiliia, and Novoselivka. Beyond the core language instruction, the school offers diverse extracurricular workshops covering folk dance, traditional instruments, singing, theatrical arts, and applied folk arts.
Currently, the institution supports 341 students in these activities, guided by 45 teachers. The Bulgarian Sunday School Balgarche is a recognized member of the World Association of Bulgarian Schools Abroad. The new multimedia classroom represents a modernization effort intended to enhance the quality and accessibility of Bulgarian language education for the local community.
