A multimedia language classroom for studying Bulgarian at the Bulgarian Sunday School Balgarche will open on May 2 in Tatarbunary, Ukraine, according to Svetoslav Ivanov, Consul General of Bulgaria in Odesa. Ivanov stated that the project aligns with Council of Ministers Decree No. 224 of October 30, 2025, and the Programme for Supporting Organizations of Bulgarian Communities in Albania, Serbia, Kosovo, Moldova, and Ukraine.
The initiative was one of eight approved proposals, supported by the Consulate General of Bulgaria in Odesa and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The proposal originated from the Tatarbunary Bulgarian Cultural and Educational Society Rodolyubie, which operates the school. The primary goal of the project is to preserve and advance Bulgarian culture, including linguistic identity, by employing modern teaching tools suitable for contemporary needs.
Furthermore, it aims to encourage students of Bulgarian descent to gain knowledge and maintain historical connections with Bulgaria. Ivanov noted the importance of the support given that the school operates in a mixed-population area. Established in 2014 by the Tatarbunary Bulgarian Cultural and Educational Society Rodolyubie, the Bulgarian Sunday School Balgarche expanded its operations in 2016–2017, opening branches in Tatarbunary and Kiliia, and in the village of Novoselivka (Kiliia Raion).
In addition to language studies, the school offers workshops covering folk dance, traditional instruments, folk singing, theatrical folk art, and applied folk arts, with 341 students participating in extracurricular activities and 45 teachers across its branches. The Bulgarian Sunday School Balgarche is a member of the World Association of Bulgarian Schools Abroad.
