The Veselyatsite folk fitness group from Madrid will collaborate with the Severnyatsi folk dance formation from Segovia, Spain, at the eleventh edition of the traveling gathering, “Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Hands.” This event is scheduled to take place from May 15 to 17 at BMW Park in Munich, Germany. Mariyana Topalska, leader of the Veselyatsite group, stated that their performance will reenact the memories of an elderly couple recalling their own youth and romance while anticipating their daughter’s wedding. Topalska explained that the narrative centers on the couple reminiscing about their own courtship and marriage while awaiting the matchmakers’ arrival.
She emphasized that the performance aims to convey the message that while life is transient, love is eternal. According to her, having love and companionship is invaluable. The Severnyatsi dance formation, led by Galya Marinova and established in 2015, will participate alongside the Veselyatsite group.
Topalska noted that this joint appearance provides an opportunity to combine the efforts of both ensembles to showcase Bulgarian culture internationally. The choreography was developed through the collaborative work of the dancers from both groups and the former leader of Severnyatsi, Antoniy Angelov. The festival, “Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance,” supports amateur folklore ensembles performing outside Bulgaria.
The initiative originated with the Ot Izvora group in Lyon, France, which hosted the first edition in 2015 and the tenth in 2025. The 11th edition in Munich anticipates participation from over 100 dance ensembles and an attendance of more than 4,000 guests. The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) is the official media partner for the event.
