A multimedia language classroom for studying Bulgarian was set to open on May 2 in Tatarbunary, Ukraine, according to Svetoslav Ivanov, Consul General of Bulgaria in Odesa. Ivanov stated that the project aligns with the Council of Ministers Decree No. 224 of October 30, 2025, and the broader Program for Supporting Organizations of Bulgarian Communities across several nations, including Ukraine.
The support initiative approved eight project proposals, with the Consulate General of Bulgaria in Odesa and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs contributing to the effort. The specific project was submitted by the Tatarbunary Bulgarian Cultural and Educational Society Rodolyubie, the organization managing the school. The primary objective of the project is to preserve and develop Bulgarian culture and linguistic identity.
By integrating modern teaching tools, the initiative aims to encourage students of Bulgarian descent to acquire knowledge and maintain their historical connection to Bulgaria. Ivanov noted that the support is especially vital as the school operates within a mixed-population area. The Bulgarian Sunday School Balgarche was initially established in 2014.
Since the 2016–2017 academic year, the school has expanded its branches across Tatarbunary, Kiliia, and Novoselivka (Kiliia Raion). Beyond language instruction, the curriculum includes workshops in folk dance, traditional instruments, singing, theatrical arts, and applied crafts. Currently, the institution serves 341 students across 45 teachers.
The Bulgarian Sunday School Balgarche is a recognized member of the World Association of Bulgarian Schools Abroad.
