Language Classroom Will Open at Bulgarian Sunday School in Tatarbunary

A multimedia language classroom dedicated to studying Bulgarian was inaugurated on May 2 in Tatarbunary, Ukraine, with support from Bulgaria, according to Svetoslav Ivanov, Consul General of Bulgaria in Odesa. Ivanov noted that the project aligns with a broader initiative supporting Bulgarian communities across several nations, including Ukraine. This support was approved under Council of Ministers Decree No.

224 of October 30, 2025, and was proposed by the Tatarbunary Bulgarian Cultural and Educational Society Rodolyubie. The primary objective of the initiative is to preserve and advance Bulgarian culture and linguistic identity. By integrating modern teaching tools, the project aims to encourage students of Bulgarian descent to acquire knowledge and maintain historical connections with Bulgaria.

The support is particularly vital as the school operates within a mixed-population area. The Bulgarian Sunday School Balgarche was first established in 2014. Its educational reach expanded in the 2016–2017 academic year, opening branches in Tatarbunary, Kiliia, and Novoselivka (Kiliia Raion).

Beyond language instruction, the school offers comprehensive extracurricular activities, including workshops on folk dance, traditional instruments, singing, theatrical folk art, and applied folk arts. Currently, the institution serves 341 students across these activities, supported by 45 teachers. The Bulgarian Sunday School Balgarche is a recognized member of the World Association of Bulgarian Schools Abroad.
