LIK Issue Dedicated to 150 Years Since April Uprising Launches in Koprivshtitsa

The latest issue of BTA’s LIK magazine focuses on the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising of 1876. The publication, which covers literature, culture, and art, utilizes BTA’s archives to present details about the uprising and commemorates past observances. The issue also incorporates commentary from educators, public figures, and local representatives from the revolutionary districts associated with the event.

The magazine is scheduled to launch at the St. Cyril and Methodius School in Koprivshtitsa on April 20th, marked as the Day of the First Shot. The presentation is a joint effort involving Koprivshtitsa Municipality and the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.

In its introduction, BTA Director General Kiril Valchev noted that the issue compiles discussions held at national press clubs across the four revolutionary districts: Veliko Tarnovo, Sliven, Vratsa, and Panagyurishte. Valchev stated that while lessons were drawn from the uprising, the consensus reached was that the movement ultimately led to Bulgaria’s freedom. Journalists and academics contributed analyses emphasizing the commitment of the young leaders.

One expert highlighted that these young men prioritized political freedom over established expectations of accumulating wealth. Prof. Georgi Valchev noted that the revolutionaries made a conscious choice to “be” rather than merely “have,” defying conventional advice.
