LIK Issue Dedicated to 150 Years Since April Uprising Launches in Koprivshtitsa

The latest issue of BTA’s LIK magazine is dedicated to commemorating the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising of 1876. The thematic publication compiles historical analysis, cultural commentary, and archival information regarding the pivotal event. The magazine incorporates details from BTA’s news service and bulletins, documenting commemorations held over the years.

The publication features expert opinions from educators, public figures, and local community representatives from the revolutionary districts associated with the uprising’s history. At the launch event in Koprivshtitsa, the program was jointly presented by Koprivshtitsa Municipality and the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, which also released its own related publication. In an introduction, BTA Director General Kiril Valchev noted that the issue synthesizes discussions held at national press clubs across the four revolutionary districts.

He stated that while the discussions explored various lessons from the Uprising, the consensus reached was that the initial efforts ultimately paved the way for Bulgaria’s eventual freedom. Other contributors highlighted the dedication of the uprising’s leaders, emphasizing their commitment to political freedom. Prof.

Georgi Valchev noted that the revolutionaries prioritized self-determination over maintaining established familial wealth. Furthermore, Prof. Atanas Semov affirmed that the April Uprising remains the “greatest collective endeavor of the Bulgarian people.”

The LIK magazine also includes a thematic timeline, drawing from BTA’s archives to present historical coverage of the Uprising from the mid-20th century onward, including accounts from contemporaries and foreign writers.

The magazine’s scope extends to previewing future commemorative events planned for 2026
