LIK Issue Dedicated to 150 Years Since April Uprising Launches in Koprivshtitsa

The latest issue of BTA’s LIK magazine is dedicated to commemorating the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising of 1876. The Bulgarian News Agency’s thematic publication explores the uprising through its extensive archives, incorporating records of commemorations held over the years within BTA’s news service. The issue also features commentary from educators, public figures, and local representatives from the revolutionary districts associated with the historical event.

The magazine is set to launch on April 20th at the St. Cyril and Methodius School in Koprivshtitsa. BTA Director General Kiril Valchev noted that the publication synthesizes discussions held at various national press clubs concerning the anniversary.

He emphasized that while the uprising presented challenges, the consensus reached was that its ultimate outcome was the success of Bulgaria’s freedom. Expert contributions analyze the historical significance of the revolt. Journalist Boyko Vassilev framed the discussion as a reflection of contemporary Bulgaria, drawing parallels between the 1876 events and modern national discussions.

Prof. Georgi Valchev highlighted the youth of the leaders, arguing that they prioritized self-determination—the choice to “be”—over material security. Prof.

Atanas Semov further asserted that the April Uprising remains the most significant collective endeavor of the Bulgarian people. The LIK magazine includes a thematic timeline compiling news report highlights from BTA’s archives, dating from the agency’s founding to the present. The content reflects a deep historical engagement, referencing past commemorations and outlining future observances related to the uprising’s legacy.
