The latest issue of BTA’s LIK magazine is dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising in 1876. This thematic publication from the Bulgarian News Agency covers literature, culture, and art, presenting the uprising through its archives and documenting commemorations held over the years within BTA’s news service and bulletins. The issue also features insights from educators, public figures, and local representatives from the revolutionary districts associated with the uprising’s history.
The magazine’s launch is scheduled for Monday, April 20, at the St. Cyril and Methodius School in Koprivshtitsa, marking the Day of the First Gunshot. This event will be jointly streamed with BTA’s national press clubs in Bulgaria and internationally, with participation from Koprivshtitsa Municipality and the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
BTA Director General Kiril Valchev noted that the LIK issue synthesizes discussions held at the national press clubs and in the four revolutionary districts: Veliko Tarnovo, Sliven, Vratsa, and Panagyurishte. He emphasized that the discussions highlighted enduring lessons from the April Uprising, concluding that its perceived failures ultimately led to Bulgaria’s freedom. Journalist Boyko Vassilev stated that conversations about the April Uprising remain relevant to contemporary Bulgaria.
In other articles, Prof. Georgi Valchev discussed the youthful commitment of the leaders, noting their choice to pursue an ideal of freedom over material security. Prof.
Atanas Semov described the April Uprising as the greatest collective endeavor of the Bulgarian people. The LIK issue includes a thematic timeline compiling news reports from BTA’s archives, spanning from its founding in 1898 to the present day, tracing the memory of the uprising through various historical commemorations.
