The Bulgarian-Macedonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) was officially launched on Friday during a ceremony held at the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI). The event brought together officials, including Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry Anton Kostadinov, the Ambassador of the Republic of North Macedonia, and business representatives from both nations. Atanas Radev was named the inaugural chair of the new bilateral chamber.
During the launch, participants emphasized the necessity of strengthening economic ties between the two neighboring countries. Kostadinov noted that while the bridge of cooperation is nearly complete, the current trade turnover of EUR 1.3 billion is insufficient given the potential of the relationship. He identified energy, construction, pharmaceuticals, tourism, and agriculture as sectors ripe for closer collaboration.
Ambassador Agneza Rusi-Popovska characterized the establishment of the BMCCI as a positive indicator for unlocking trade potential. She highlighted Bulgaria’s role as a significant trading partner and a gateway to the European Union for North Macedonia. While noting stable trade, she stressed the need to boost investment activity, pointing to energy, manufacturing, transport, and digital services as key areas for enhanced commerce.
Ivan Todorov, Vice President of the BCCI, also underscored the critical need for improved connectivity across road, rail, and air infrastructure.
