The Bulgarian-Macedonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) was formally launched on Friday during a ceremony held at the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI). The event brought together officials, including Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry Anton Kostadinov, the Ambassador of the Republic of North Macedonia to Bulgaria, and business representatives from both nations. Atanas Radev was named the chair of the newly established bilateral chamber.
During the launch, Radev emphasized the goal of building stronger economic bridges between the two countries. Kostadinov noted that despite recent challenges, the potential for economic cooperation between Bulgaria and North Macedonia remains substantial, stating that the current trade turnover of EUR 1.3 billion is insufficient for the depth of their commercial relationship. He urged a constructive dialogue focusing on sectors like energy, construction, pharmaceuticals, tourism, and agriculture.
Ambassador Agneza Rusi-Popovska highlighted Bulgaria’s role as a vital trading partner and gateway to the European Union for North Macedonia’s integration. She stressed that while trade remains stable, boosting investment in manufacturing, transport, and digital services is crucial. Ivan Todorov of the BCCI echoed this sentiment, stressing the necessity of improving physical connectivity, including road, rail, and air links, to fully realize the commerce potential.
The BMCCI’s inaugural event included a business forum designed to foster joint ventures and cooperative projects within the industry sector. The chamber plans to organize such forums annually in both countries, solidifying its role in deepening economic ties and supporting the bilateral business community.
