The Bulgarian-Macedonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) was formally launched on Friday during a ceremony hosted by the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI). Attendees included Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry Anton Kostadinov, the Ambassador of the Republic of North Macedonia to Bulgaria, Agneza Rusi-Popovska, local mayors, and business leaders from both nations. Atanas Radev will chair the newly formed bilateral chamber.
Speaking at the event, Radev emphasized the necessity of building stronger connections between the two neighboring countries. Kostadinov noted that the economic relationship between Bulgaria and North Macedonia has substantial potential, stating that the current trade turnover of EUR 1.3 billion is insufficient. He identified key sectors for enhanced collaboration, such as energy, construction, pharmaceuticals, tourism, and agriculture, urging a constructive dialogue among business organizations.
Ambassador Rusi-Popovska characterized the launch as a positive step toward unlocking trade potential. She highlighted Bulgaria’s importance to North Macedonia, not only as a neighbor but also as a gateway to the European Union, linking deeper economic ties to North Macedonia’s integration process. She called for increased investment across sectors like manufacturing, transport, and digital services, noting that infrastructure gaps hinder full economic development.
Ivan Todorov, Vice President of the BCCI, echoed the need for improved connectivity across road, rail, and air transport. The BMCCI immediately hosted its first Bulgarian–Macedonian Business Forum, designed to foster joint ventures and cooperation. The chamber plans to organize similar forums annually in both Bulgaria and North Macedonia to strengthen the overall commerce and industry ties.
