Market Discrimination Most Common in Hiring and Pay

A survey conducted by the Commission for Protection against Discrimination (CPD) revealed that 53.7% of 592 respondents reported experiencing some form of discrimination. The study analyzed the manifestations of economic discrimination across several sectors. In the labor market, the most frequently reported areas of discrimination include hiring practices (47.8%) and career development (31.2%).

Furthermore, respondents noted instances of discrimination when receiving additional benefits (32.6%) or regarding working conditions (26.1%). Demographic analysis showed that older workers (53.8%) and ethnic minorities (50.4%) were among the groups most affected by labor discrimination. Beyond employment, the CPD study highlighted discrimination when accessing essential services.

A significant portion of respondents (36.5%) reported facing discrimination in healthcare, education, and social care. Discrimination was also reported concerning the pricing of goods/services (27.2%), public procurement (27.9%), and interactions with financial institutions (25.4%). The CPD identified negative perceptions as the leading cause of economic discrimination (51.4%), followed by a lack of information (43.7%).
