Minister Gurov Commemorates April Uprising Anniversary

Caretaker Prime Minister Andrey Gurov addressed the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising on Monday, stating that the measure of freedom has shifted from mere possibility to a matter of conscious choice. Gurov reflected that 150 years prior, young revolutionaries initiated an uprising to secure the right for all Bulgarians to choose their path—a right, he noted, that Bulgarians exercised recently. The Prime Minister emphasized that freedom is not a singular event but an ongoing commitment.

He stated, “It is a necessity to stay awake, to think, to be vigilant, and not to be silent if we have to defend our freedom.” In a tribute to the heroes of the April Uprising, Minister Gurov shared a video clip featuring the recitation of a letter from the Bulgarian revolutionary and poet Hristo Botev, addressed to Ivan Grudov, Ivan Kavaldzhiev, and Georgi Stranski. Gurov’s remarks underscored the enduring importance of civic vigilance. By framing freedom as an active responsibility rather than a passive state, the Minister encouraged continuous engagement in national discourse.

The commemoration served as a platform for the caretaker Prime Minister to reflect on the historical struggle for Bulgarian self-determination and the necessity of safeguarding democratic rights through continuous awareness and action.
