The Bulgarian national taekwondo team secured three gold medals at the British Open Kyorugi 2026 in Manchester on Sunday. The victors were Hristiyan Georgiev, Stefan Stamenov, and Alexandra Georgieva. The team, which is currently participating in a training camp in Manchester, competed at the British Open, where three of the six Bulgarian athletes entered the event to achieve the sweep of three gold medals.
In the men’s 54 kg division, top-ranked Hristiyan Georgiev began his competition with a 2-0 victory against an Italian opponent. He subsequently defeated a competitor from Saudi Arabia before advancing to the semi-finals to beat an Indonesian athlete. Georgiev concluded his tournament by defeating a Spanish opponent in the final to secure his gold medal.
Stefan Stamenov won gold in the men’s 74 kg division, achieving four consecutive victories. His path included defeating opponents from the United States, Denmark, and Great Britain, culminating in a final win against another Danish competitor. Alexandra Georgieva claimed the gold medal in the women’s 49 kg division after securing decisive wins against competitors from Morocco, the United States, and Poland.
In the final team standings, Bulgaria finished in third place, trailing Great Britain, the champion, and the United States, the runner-up, at the British Open.
