Analysis of the Agricultural Market Information System (AMIS) for the 17th week of 2026 indicates positive pricing signals for consumers in Bulgaria as of mid-April. According to the summary report covering the nation’s 28 regions, greenhouse vegetable prices continued their decline for the third consecutive week. In mid-April, consumers observed notable decreases in several items.
Greenhouse cucumbers dropped 13% to €2.98 per kilogram, while tomatoes fell 11% to €3.65 per kg. Eggplants also saw an 11% reduction, and strawberries dropped 4% to €4.85 per kg. These price decreases are attributed to the increased availability of local produce entering the market.
Conversely, the retail price of lettuce rose by 12%, and spinach increased by 5%. In contrast to the vegetable fluctuations, the core consumer basket, comprising meat, milk, bread, and legumes, remained stable compared to the second week of April. Basic staples such as flour, sugar, and cooking oil largely maintained their previous week’s prices.
Regional disparities in pricing remain significant. For instance, the cost of greenhouse tomatoes varied substantially, ranging from €2.80 per kg in Plovdiv to €4.80
