Data from the Agricultural Market Information System (AMIS) for the seventeenth week of 2026 indicates that Bulgaria’s food market showed positive signs for consumers during mid-April. While the core consumer basket—including meat, milk, bread, and legumes—remained stable compared to the second week of April, prices for certain greenhouse vegetables declined significantly. In mid-April, consumers observed notable price reductions for several items.
Greenhouse cucumbers dropped by 13% to €2.98 per kilogram, and tomatoes fell by 11% to €3.65 per kg. Eggplants also saw an 11% decrease, while green onions and strawberries saw drops of 7-8% and 4%, respectively. Analysts attribute these declines to an increase in local produce entering the market supply.
Conversely, minor price increases were recorded for items like lettuce (+12%) and spinach (+5%). Basic staple goods, such as flour, rice, sugar, and cooking oil, largely maintained their prices from the preceding week. However, regional variations in pricing remain substantial.
