On April Uprising Revive Memory of Freedom Martyrs, Says BTA Director General

During a conference marking the 150th anniversary of the 1876 April Uprising, BTA Director General Kiril Valchev stated that the discussions served to reflect on the historical significance of the event. The conference, held at the Historical Museum in Panagyurishte, concluded a series of dialogues organized by the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) across various revolutionary districts, including Veliko Tarnovo, Sliven, Vratsa, and Ruse. Valchev highlighted that the discussions yielded crucial lessons applicable today, emphasizing the necessity of defining major objectives before undertaking difficult steps.

He noted that historical setbacks, such as the initial outcomes of the uprising, ultimately contributed to Bulgaria’s ultimate freedom. He drew parallels between this concept of failure leading to success and religious concepts of salvation. Furthermore, Valchev stressed the potent influence of media, noting its capacity to significantly shape public opinion and aid national development, as was evident following the April Uprising.
