Director General of the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA), Kiril Valchev, stated that discussions surrounding the April Uprising serve to honor the martyrs who fought for Bulgaria’s freedom. This event concludes a series of discussions organized by the BTA across several key centers of the uprising, including Veliko Tarnovo, Sliven, Vratsa, Panagyurishte, Ruse, and Giurgiu.
During the conference, Valchev noted that the discussions highlighted crucial lessons applicable today, emphasizing the necessity of defining major objectives before tackling the associated challenges. He pointed out that the perceived failures of the uprising ultimately contributed to Bulgaria’s success—its freedom. Valchev also stressed the significant influence of media coverage, arguing that it possesses the capacity to alter public opinion and aid a nation’s survival, a dynamic observed after the April Uprising across Europe.
Drawing from excerpts from Zahari Stoyanov’s Notes on the Bulgarian Uprisings, Valchev outlined several principles for leadership. These include maintaining activity, resisting personal gain, preventing despair among followers, and ensuring leaders are knowledgeable
