Pledges Supports For New Three Seas Partnership Initiative

Bulgaria, through its Ministry of Innovation and Growth (MIG), has announced support for a new regional partnership involving Croatia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, and Slovenia within the scope of the Three Seas Initiative. This commitment was detailed on the European Investment Fund’s (EIF) website. Representatives from the EIF and the five national promotional banks signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Dubrovnik on April 28, establishing the framework for this new regional effort aimed at improving connectivity across Central and Southeastern Europe.

The initiative is projected to secure at least EUR 2 billion in investments dedicated to vital infrastructure projects. The primary goal is to mobilize public funds to attract substantial private capital for development across sectors including clean energy, transport networks, digital infrastructure, and social services. The signing took place on the first day of the Three Seas Initiative summit held in Croatia.

Under the proposed structure, the five participating nations plan to jointly contribute EUR 250 million, which the EIF commits to matching. MIG stated that Bulgaria will support this cooperation through the JEREMIE initiative, which has been extended until 2035. For Bulgaria, planned investments of up to EUR 25 million in infrastructure connectivity within the Three Seas Initiative represent one of four strategic areas under this ten-year investment strategy.

The establishment of the new Infrastructure Fund of Funds is expected to facilitate the joining of additional countries to this collaborative effort.
