Producer Price Growth in Bulgaria Slows to 8.1% Year-on-Year in March

Industrial producer prices in Bulgaria registered an 8.1% increase year-on-year in March, according to data released by the National Statistical Institute (NSI). While the overall Producer Price Index (PPI) experienced a slight dip of 0.8% in March 2026 compared to the preceding month, the rate remained significantly elevated when benchmarked against the same period the previous year. Sectoral analysis revealed varied movements.

Compared to February, the production and distribution of electricity, heat, and gas saw a decline of 7.7%. Conversely, the mining industry reported a rise of 3.3%, and manufacturing increased by 2.2%. On an annual basis, price growth was notable across several sectors: the mining industry rose by 40.4%, manufacturing increased by 4.9%, and the energy sector showed a modest annual rise of 0.8%.

Reviewing the preceding months, NSI data indicated that the start of the year saw industrial producer price growth accelerating, registering 5.9% month-on-month and 11.3% year-on-year. This upward momentum moderated in February, where the monthly increase slowed to 0.1% and the year-on-year growth stood at 8.4%. The latest figures for March confirm that while month-over-month fluctuations are minor, the cumulative price changes over the past twelve months continue to define the trajectory of the Bulgarian producer price index.

  1. This slowdown suggests some easing in inflationary pressures, which is positive for consumers.
