Industrial producer price growth in Bulgaria moderated to 8.1% year-on-year during March, according to data released by the National Statistical Institute (NSI). While the overall Producer Price Index (PPI) saw a decline of 0.8% when comparing March to the preceding month, the annual increase remained at 8.1% above the level recorded in March of the previous year. The NSI reported varied performance across key sectors in March.
Specifically, the production and distribution of electricity, heat, and gas experienced a decrease of 7.7% compared to February. Conversely, the mining industry registered a 3.3% increase, and the manufacturing sector posted a 2.2% rise month-over-month. Examining the year-on-year figures for March, price growth was notably high in the mining industry, which increased by 40.4%.
The manufacturing sector saw an annual increase of 4.9%, while the electricity, heat, and gas sector recorded a modest annual rise of 0.8%. For context, the year began with industrial producer prices rising 5.9% month-on-month and 11.3% year-on-year in January. This upward momentum slowed in February, with monthly increases of 0.1% and year-on-year growth at 8.4%.
The March data provides a snapshot of the current trajectory for Bulgarian producer pricing against the preceding year.
