Saxophonist Patrick Bartley and His Quartet Perform in Sofia on International Jazz Day

American saxophonist and composer Patrick Bartley is scheduled to perform in Sofia with his quartet to commemorate International Jazz Day. According to organizers, the performance will take place at Hall 3 of the National Palace of Culture (NDK) on Thursday, April 30, as part of the Salon des Arts at NDK. Bartley will present original music from his unrecorded project, New Visions, accompanied by his quartet of American musicians.

The event is a collaborative effort involving the Festivals in Bulgaria Association, NDK, Jazz FM Radio, and Sofia’s National Academy of Music. Furthermore, the American ensemble is slated to conduct a workshop for local Bulgarian jazz talents at the Academy. Bartley, born in 1993, developed his skills starting on the clarinet in third grade before transitioning to the saxophone in high school.

He achieved his first professional recording at the age of 17. His extensive career includes collaborations with notable artists such as Wynton Marsalis, Herbie Hancock, Jon Batiste, and Dee Dee Bridgewater. He has performed at prestigious venues like Madison Square Garden and Jazz at Lincoln Center, and appeared on television, including “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” on CBS.
