Someone Begins Doing Their Job, They Get Framed with False Witnesses – CC Leader Vassilev

Following statements from the Interior Ministry’s acting Secretary General, Georgi Kandev, alleging he faced pressure to resign, Continue the Change (CC) leader Assen Vassilev issued a public critique on Facebook. Vassilev asserted that when someone begins doing their job, they are immediately targeted with false accusations. He characterized the threats directed at Secretary General Kandev as scandalous.

Furthermore, Vassilev stated that the replacement of the Supreme Judicial Council and the restructuring of the judicial system are necessary steps to achieve a “prosperous, just, and European Bulgaria.”

These comments followed a video message posted by Kandev on Friday. In the video, Kandev mentioned receiving a directive to leave his post but declared that he would not yield to threats or private negotiations. The controversy centers on allegations that on Thursday, Kandev was informed that several individuals, including one identified by the nickname “Kartofa,” had provided false testimony against him at the Sofia City Prosecution Office.

The exchange highlights ongoing tensions within the Bulgarian political and judicial spheres. Vassilev’s commentary suggests a systemic issue, implying that any someone attempting to uphold institutional standards faces opposition. Kandev’s response maintains his commitment to his current role despite the reported pressure from various sources.

The differing accounts of the events underscore a dispute over the integrity and proper functioning of state institutions.
