Students Walk “In the Footsteps of Heroes” to Mark 150th Anniversary of April Uprising

Students from Sofia participated in “In the Footsteps of the Heroes,” a historical game organized by the Sofia Municipality. The event was held in Boris Garden Park to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising. The initiative took place along the Prominent Bulgarians alley, where teams of students engaged in an educational activity centered on Bulgarian history.

During the game, the participating students were guided to search for monuments dedicated to national heroes. They answered questions pertaining to the nation’s history while tracing routes linked to significant revolutionaries, including Vasil Levski, Hristo Botev, Zahari Stoyanov, Todor Kableshkov, and Georgi Benkovski. Deputy Mayor Desislava Zhelyazkova, who oversees education and urban development, stated that the event aimed to connect the 150-year-old act of courage with the youth, encouraging students to experience history outside traditional classroom settings.

The educational process involved more than just trivia; participants collected puzzle pieces that formed a symbolic map of the uprising as they successfully answered historical questions. Upon concluding the walk, every team composed a short message to the Bulgarian people, inspired by the knowledge they had gained. This unique concept was developed with the input of history teacher Emil Jassim and forms part of the Sofia Municipality’s cultural program, executed in collaboration with Sofia’s Regional Education Directorate.

The event successfully provided a tangible and engaging way for students to connect with the legacy of Bulgaria’s heroes.
