The Change: We Are Very Far from Becoming One Party with Yes, Bulgaria

Nikolay Denkov stated on Nova Television that the political alignment between his party, Continue the Change (CC), and Yes, Bulgaria, is far from forming a single unified party. While acknowledging shared objectives with Yes, Bulgaria, Denkov emphasized that the parties diverge on the methods for achieving those goals. Although CC has been a coalition partner with Yes, Bulgaria, and Democrats for Strong Bulgaria since 2023, no formal coalition agreement is in place.

Recently, the National Council of Yes, Bulgaria passed a resolution recommending the proposal of a formal coalition agreement and outlining a roadmap toward a common political entity. Denkov critiqued the two alternatives put forth, describing one as creating a single common party and the other as a complete separation. He argued that these proposals were overly extreme.

The deputy leader suggested that the parties should focus on collaborating while each retaining the ability to develop its unique strengths, rather than dissolving the partnership. He noted that an agreement has already been reached concerning the nomination of a joint presidential candidate. Regarding the formation of separate parliamentary groups, Denkov indicated that this decision rests with the respective Members of Parliament when they convene.

This commentary followed statements from Ivaylo Mirchev and Bozhidar Bozhanov, co-leaders of Yes, Bulgaria, who stressed that the electorate in Bulgaria desires a more consolidated political project. The differing viewpoints highlight ongoing discussions regarding the future structure of the political alliance involving Yes, Bulgaria and the principles of change advocated by CC.
