Uprising Anniversary Conference Due in Panagyurishte

A conference marking the 150th anniversary of the Bulgarian April Uprising against Ottoman rule is taking place today, April 30, at the Museum of History in Panagyurishte. This forum is part of a larger series of discussions organized by the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) to foster public dialogue surrounding the historic anniversary. Several notable figures are participating in the event, including BTA Director General Kiril Valchev, Sofia University Rector Georgi Valchev, Bulgarian National Radio Director General Milen Mitev, Panagyurishte Mayor Zhelyazko Gagov, and the local Museum of History Director, Atanas Shopov.

Theatre director Bina Haralampieva will also be in attendance. Journalist Boyko Vasilev, host of the “Panorama” program on Bulgarian National Television, will moderate the proceedings. These conferences commemorating the 150th anniversary of the uprising are part of the “14 Centuries of Bulgaria in Europe” initiative.

This effort, a collaboration between BTA, the National Television, and the National Radio, seeks to highlight significant milestones in Bulgarian history and their connection to the broader history of Europe. The event provides a platform for examining the historical context and significance of the uprising.
