Vegetable Prices Fall, Fruit Prices Rise

Wholesale food prices in Bulgaria saw a general decline this week, according to data released by the State Commission on Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets. The Wholesale Food Price Index, which monitors wholesale food costs, decreased by 2%, reaching 2.691 points from the previous week’s 2.746 points. The index’s base level is set at 1.000 points, established in 2005.

Among vegetables, significant price shifts were noted. Cucumbers experienced the steepest drop, falling 14.71% to EUR 1.60 per kilogram, while onions decreased by 14.38% to EUR 0.50 per kilogram. Tomatoes saw a decline of 11.56% to EUR 2.25 per kilogram.

Other vegetable prices also adjusted, with green and red peppers falling 9.21% and 6.88% respectively, and courgettes dropping 3.61% to EUR 1.50 per kilogram. Conversely, carrots rose by 12.54% to EUR 0.70 per kilogram, and cabbage increased by 2.64% to EUR 0.70 per kilogram. In the fruit sector, apples rose slightly by 0.95% to EUR 1.28 per kilogram, while lemons dropped 2.53% to EUR 2.11 per kilogram.

Dairy products showed mixed trends; the price of cow’s milk white brine cheese dropped 0.63% to EUR 6.01 per kilogram. Staple goods also saw changes in their wholesale prices. Rice increased by 3.43% to EUR 1.75 per kilogram, and sugar rose 1.32% to EUR 0.92 per kilogram.

Flour increased by 5.82% to EUR 0.80 per kilogram. Overall, while many vegetable and dairy prices fell, commodities like carrots and rice registered notable increases in their wholesale prices.
