Will Be Constructive, Responsible Opposition

During its inaugural sitting, Ayten Sabri, an MP for the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF), stated that the party intends to function as a constructive and responsible opposition. Sabri indicated that the MRF will support any policy that upholds the rights and freedoms of the Bulgarian citizenry and serves the best interests of the state. However, she added that the party will also serve as a principled corrective force when deviations occur concerning good governance, transparency, legality, and democratic human rights standards.

Addressing the need for stability amid volatile domestic and international conditions, the MRF MP outlined several key priorities for Bulgaria. These include enhancing the quality of life and raising living standards, achieving economic stability and growth, modernizing the economy and agricultural production, ensuring food safety, and mitigating social and regional disparities. Furthermore, the party emphasized the importance of supporting young families, preserving traditional values, maintaining Bulgaria’s consistent European trajectory as an effective EU Member State, and fostering strong partnerships with the US and the Euro-Atlantic community.

Sabri affirmed that the MRF’s actions will be guided by the principle of upholding the liberty, justice, and equality of every citizen. She stressed that this commitment is necessary to move beyond confrontation and restore a culture of political dialogue aimed at finding common public solutions. According to Sabri, the day marked not just the start of a new term, but an affirmation of democracy as an ongoing process dependent on citizen trust and institutional accountability.

She concluded by appealing for the Parliament to exemplify political maturity, demonstrating an ability to build consensus rather than division on crucial issues for Bulgaria’s future.

  1. It will be interesting to see if the MRF’s commitment to constructive opposition translates into actionable policy support.
