Will Be Constructive, Responsible Opposition

Addressing the 52nd National Assembly during its inaugural sitting on Thursday, Ayten Sabri MP of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) stated that the party intends to serve as a constructive and responsible opposition. Sabri affirmed that the MRF will support any policy deemed beneficial to the rights and freedoms of the Bulgarian citizenry and the State. Concurrently, she pledged that the party will act as a principled corrective force whenever deviations occur concerning good governance, transparency, legality, or the principles of democracy and human rights.

According to Sabri, in the current volatile domestic and international climate, Bulgaria requires a clear and sustainable policy vision. She outlined several key priorities for the MRF, including improving the quality of life and raising living standards, ensuring economic stability and growth, modernizing the economy and agricultural production, guaranteeing food safety, and mitigating social and regional disparities. Furthermore, she emphasized supporting young families, preserving traditional values, solidifying Bulgaria’s European development as an effective EU member, and maintaining strong partnerships with the US and the Euro-Atlantic community.

Sabri concluded that the MRF’s actions will be guided by the principle of upholding the liberty, justice, and equality of every Bulgarian citizen. She stressed that this commitment is vital for moving beyond confrontation and restoring a culture of political dialogue aimed at finding common public solutions. She appealed to the Parliament to exemplify political maturity and statesmanship, urging members to build consensus rather than division on key issues critical to Bulgaria’s future.

  1. It will be interesting to see if this commitment to constructive opposition translates into concrete policy support rather than just rhetoric.

  2. What specific areas of policy does the MRF intend to support as a constructive opposition?
