363 Kg Marijuana Worth EUR 3 Mln Seized at Lesovo Border Crossing

Customs officers at the Lesovo border crossing seized nearly 363 kilograms of marijuana from a lorry that was passing through the area. The narcotic substance was valued at approximately EUR 3 million based on judicial pricing, according to the Customs Agency on Friday. The incident occurred after the lorry, bearing Romanian registration, arrived at the Lesovo border crossing on the outbound lane from Romania on Thursday.

The driver, identified as a Turkish national, presented documentation indicating the transport of washing machines en route from Romania to Turkey via Bulgaria, and declared that there were no other undeclared goods. During a comprehensive customs inspection, officers found 25 boxes placed atop the declared washing machines within the cargo. These boxes contained a total of 338 vacuum-sealed packages of green leafy material.

Field drug tests conducted on the contents yielded positive results for marijuana. Authorities subsequently seized a total of 362 kg of the substance. Following the discovery, the driver was detained, and pre-trial proceedings have been initiated in connection with the case.

The Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Yambol is expected to file a request with the court seeking the imposition of a detention measure in custody. The seizure highlights ongoing enforcement activities at the border crossing.
