363 Kg Marijuana Worth EUR 3 Mln Seized at Lesovo Border Crossing

Customs officers at the Lesovo border crossing seized nearly 363 kg of marijuana from a lorry carrying washing machines, according to the Customs Agency on Friday. The narcotics are valued at approximately EUR 3 million based on judicial pricing. The incident occurred on Thursday when the lorry, bearing Romanian registration, entered the outbound lane at the Lesovo border crossing.

In the customs control area, the driver, a Turkish national, presented documentation indicating the cargo consisted solely of washing machines in transit from Romania to Turkey via Bulgaria. He declared that there were no other goods to declare. During a comprehensive customs inspection, officers discovered twenty-five boxes situated atop the declared washing machines.

These boxes contained a total of 338 vacuum-sealed packages of dry green leafy substance. Field drug tests conducted on the material within the packages tested positive for marijuana. Authorities subsequently seized a total of 362 kg of marijuana.

The driver has been detained, and pre-trial proceedings have commenced regarding the case. The Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Yambol is expected to file a request with the court for the imposition of a detention measure in custody.
