363 Kg Marijuana Worth EUR 3 Mln Seized at Lesovo Border Crossing

Customs authorities reported the seizure of nearly 363 kilograms of marijuana at the Lesovo border crossing on Friday. The narcotic substance is valued at approximately EUR 3 million based on judicial pricing. The incident occurred when a lorry bearing Romanian registration arrived at the border crossing on Thursday.

The driver, identified as a Turkish national, presented documentation indicating the transport of washing machines en route from Romania to Turkey via Bulgaria, and stated that there was nothing else to declare. During a comprehensive customs inspection, officers discovered 25 boxes positioned atop the declared washing machines within the cargo. These boxes contained a total of 338 vacuum-sealed packages of dry green leafy material.

Field drug testing conducted on the contents confirmed the presence of marijuana. The total gross weight of the seized marijuana was recorded as 362 kg. Following the discovery, the driver was detained, and pre-trial proceedings have been initiated regarding the case.

The Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Yambol is scheduled to submit a request to the court for the imposition of a remand measure of detention in custody. The seizure highlights ongoing efforts by customs agencies to monitor and intercept illicit goods passing through international transit points.
